AECOM Strengthens Aviation Leadership with Heathrow Veteran Dennis Austin

New appointment reinforces consultancy's growing aviation capability as investment gathers pace across UK and European airports

AECOM has strengthened its aviation design leadership with the appointment of Dennis Austin as Aviation Architecture Director, further expanding the company's capability to support major airport infrastructure programmes across the UK and Europe.

Austin joins the global infrastructure consultancy with more than three decades of international aviation experience, having played leading roles in the planning and delivery of some of the world's most significant airport developments.

His appointment comes as governments and airport operators across Europe continue investing in terminal expansion, passenger capacity, sustainability and next-generation aviation infrastructure.

Extensive International Experience

Throughout his career, Austin has worked on high-profile airport programmes across Europe, Asia and North America, specialising in terminal architecture, aviation infrastructure and multidisciplinary project delivery.

He is perhaps best known within the UK aviation sector for his involvement at Heathrow Airport, where he contributed to both the landmark Terminal 5 development and the Heathrow Expansion Programme.

During the delivery of Terminal 5, Austin helped shape the terminal's overall architectural concept while playing a significant role in developing its innovative roof construction methodology, one of the defining engineering features of the project.

Beyond Heathrow, his portfolio includes work on several internationally recognised aviation projects, including:

• Singapore Changi Terminal 5

• Geneva Airport East Pier

• Charles de Gaulle Terminal 2F

• Shanghai Pudong International Airport

Proven Track Record

A New York-registered architect, Austin previously served as an Associate Partner at Richard Rogers Partnership (now RSHP) and also held a senior position with Aéroports de Paris, leading aviation programmes across Europe, North America and Asia.

His appointment further strengthens AECOM's growing aviation portfolio as airports across the UK and Europe prepare for long-term investment programmes focused on increasing capacity, improving operational efficiency and supporting the transition towards a lower-carbon aviation sector.
