FMG Secures Long-Term National Highways Recovery Contract

Six-year agreement will see more than 22,000 vehicle recoveries managed annually across England's strategic road network.
FMG has retained responsibility for coordinating vehicle recovery operations across England's motorways and major A roads after being awarded a new long-term contract by National Highways.
The agreement, secured following a competitive procurement process, will run for an initial six years, with the option to extend for a further 48 months, ensuring continuity of one of the country's most critical roadside response services.
Supporting Thousands of Incidents Every Year
Under the contract, FMG will continue managing the recovery of more than 22,000 vehicles annually, covering everything from breakdowns and collision-damaged vehicles to abandoned vehicles requiring removal from the strategic road network.
The service encompasses both light and heavy vehicles and includes a range of supporting activities such as vehicle storage, disposal of unclaimed vehicles and property, and the deployment of recovery operators to key locations ahead of severe weather or major traffic events.
By positioning recovery resources before disruption occurs, National Highways aims to reduce incident response times and minimise congestion caused by stranded vehicles.
A Partnership Spanning Nearly Two Decades
FMG has worked alongside National Highways since 2008, acting as the central coordinator between the road operator and a nationwide network of specialist Vehicle Recovery Operators (VROs).
The service is delivered around the clock from FMG's dedicated secure control centre in Huddersfield, where teams coordinate recovery requests and dispatch recovery operators across England's motorway and trunk road network.
The company says the partnership is built around maintaining high standards of operational performance, compliance and health and safety while helping keep traffic moving following incidents.
Focus on Innovation and Network Resilience
Andrew Chandler, Managing Director of FMG, said retaining the contract reflects the strength of the long-standing relationship between the organisation, National Highways and its recovery partners.
"We're incredibly proud to continue supporting National Highways through this important service. Working alongside our network of vehicle recovery operators, we'll continue investing in innovation, operational efficiency and sustainable solutions that help deliver safer and more reliable journeys for road users."
He added that the organisation would continue adapting to changes across the automotive sector, including evolving vehicle technologies and new operational requirements over the lifetime of the contract.
Critical Role in Keeping Traffic Moving
Rapid vehicle recovery remains a key part of managing England's strategic road network, helping clear incidents quickly, reduce congestion and improve safety for motorists and emergency responders.
Whether responding to collisions, mechanical failures or severe weather events, recovery operators play an essential role in restoring traffic flow and reducing the wider impact of unplanned incidents.
FMG, part of the Zigup group, provides 24-hour fleet and driver support services for more than 800,000 cars, vans and heavy goods vehicles across the UK. Alongside its National Highways responsibilities, the business supports fleet operators, insurers, leasing companies, police forces and public sector organisations through services including roadside assistance, incident management, repair coordination, risk management and legal support.
The renewed contract ensures that FMG will continue to play a central role in maintaining the resilience of England's strategic road network for at least the next six years, with the potential to extend its partnership with National Highways into the next decade.
