Liverpool John Lennon Airport Names Clive Condie as New Chair

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has confirmed the appointment of Clive Condie as its new chair, marking a significant leadership change as the airport continues to build momentum under new majority ownership.

Condie succeeds Robert Hough, who had chaired the airport since 2014, and takes up the role at a time of continued passenger growth, airline expansion and commercial development at one of the UK’s increasingly prominent regional airports.

Bringing extensive experience across aviation, infrastructure and logistics, Condie has held a number of senior executive, non-executive and chair positions during his career. His previous roles include serving as chairman of London Luton Airport, as well as advisory and leadership posts connected to airport and transport infrastructure businesses in the UK and overseas.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport said the appointment would help support its next phase of growth, as the business looks to strengthen its aviation offer while developing wider commercial opportunities.

Tim Power, partner at infrastructure investment manager Ancala, said Condie’s experience would help build on the progress made under Hough’s leadership, with the airport now focused on expanding its services and long-term commercial potential.

Chief Executive John Irving also welcomed the appointment, saying Condie’s background in aviation and infrastructure would be valuable as Liverpool John Lennon Airport enters its next stage of development.

The leadership change comes during a strong period for the airport. In 2025, Liverpool John Lennon Airport handled more than 5.6 million passengers, making it the busiest year in its history. That growth has been supported by increased airline activity, new and expanded route programmes, and continued investment in passenger facilities.

Recent improvements have also included infrastructure upgrades and sustainability measures, including the development of an on-site solar installation designed to support the airport’s longer-term environmental ambitions.

The airport has continued to strengthen its position as a growing regional gateway, with airlines adding capacity and extending route options across Europe. Looking ahead, its operators are expected to focus on improving connectivity, enhancing the passenger experience and increasing the airport’s economic contribution to the Liverpool City Region and the wider North West.
