National Highways begins £2.7m A1 improvement programme in Lincolnshire

National Highways is set to carry out a £2.7 million package of maintenance works on the A1 in Lincolnshire, aimed at improving road safety and providing smoother journeys for drivers.

The work will take place between Foston and Little Ponton, with overnight closures used to reduce disruption for road users and nearby communities. The programme is scheduled to begin on 11 June and is expected to be completed by the end of October.

The scheme will include resurfacing sections of the main carriageway, slip roads and laybys. Road markings and studs will also be renewed, while high-friction surfacing will be installed on both the northbound and southbound carriageways to improve grip and safety.

Additional works will include resurfacing footways, replacing kerbs in laybys, renewing damaged marker posts and clearing vegetation. This will include removing self-seeded trees from parts of the central reservation.

Kyle Morley, National Highways Project Manager, said:

"This investment will make a real difference to the condition of one of the county's most important roads and, once the work is complete, drivers will benefit from safer and smoother journeys.

“With careful planning we’ve managed to combine two schemes under the same closures which will keep disruption to road users and local communities to a minimum while reducing the number of closures needed in the future."

Work will be carried out from 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday. Full carriageway and slip road closures will be needed at times so the improvements can be delivered safely, with signed diversion routes in place throughout the programme.

Laybys will also be closed while works are taking place. National Highways is encouraging drivers to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional travel time.
