Stagecoach West Names Martin Gibbon as New Managing Director

Stagecoach West has appointed Martin Gibbon as its new managing director, placing him in charge of bus operations across Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Herefordshire, Swindon and Wiltshire.
Gibbon returns to the region following a previous spell as operations director between 2019 and 2023. He succeeds to the leadership role after serving as managing director of Stagecoach South Wales, where he also held the position of chair of the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) Wales.
Speaking about his appointment, Gibbon said his priority would be to encourage greater use of public transport by delivering dependable, high-quality services that meet the needs of local communities.
He highlighted the role public transport plays in connecting people with employment, education and essential services, while also supporting local economies, improving social inclusion and contributing to environmental goals.
Gibbon added that he is committed to working openly with customers, stakeholders and partners to ensure bus services continue to improve across the region.
Having joined Stagecoach in 2011, he has built extensive experience in both operational and leadership positions across southern England and Wales, including previous roles in the West of England and Oxfordshire.
Sam Greer, chief operating officer at Stagecoach Group, welcomed the appointment, describing Gibbon as a passionate industry leader with significant operational expertise and a strong commitment to serving local communities.
Greer said Gibbon’s leadership style reflects the company’s focus on building trust with passengers and delivering reliable transport services across the areas it serves.
Founded in 1980, Stagecoach is the UK’s largest bus and coach operator, running a fleet of around 8,300 vehicles and employing approximately 25,000 people. The company operates services across more than 100 towns and cities throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
The operator continues to invest in sustainable transport, with electric vehicles now accounting for more than 15 per cent of its fleet. Stagecoach has also pledged to contribute up to 0.5 per cent of its annual pre-tax profits to charitable initiatives across the UK as part of its wider sustainability commitments.
